R1200GS, 2015 50K miles with camshaft noise...how to repair when BMW rejected Goodwill application? (premium brand.... :(

Hello! I'm the non proud and unhappy owner of a 2015 GS (my third GS over the years). Just purchased it to replace an older bike and what started as some valve noise, was discovered as the common (now I know ....) camshaft defective axis (wrong or missing hardening).
Through the local dealer we applied for a goodwill repair (fabrication issue ...) which today was rejected
Then now I need to repair on my own the VERY LAST BMW that I'm going to own.
Any suggestions how to do that without selling a kidney?
Searching the all head in Ebay?
Is there a way to replace just the 4 cams?

sorry but that is not necessary, that u repare it yourself… Where are you from? Was the Gs serviced in BMW all the time? Are you the second owner or the third?
I dont understand what is really your question…

THX for the prompt response. I'm the third owner, just purchased it. Was under BMW authorized dealer all the time. They sent to BMW Germany a Goodwill request (as it's not in warrantee anymore) and today I received the negative answer....I'm on my own. Will sell it after will be repaired. My question was what's the lowest cost repair option.

Your GS is SIX YEARS old and has 80K+ kilometres on the dial. What do you expect from BMW?
Lifetime warranty?

You did already line out that this will be your last BMW; sell the bike as is to a junk yard and stop complaining.

Ärgerlich natürlich aber ich sehe es wie Gerd. Trotzdem würde ich es ausschließlich in einer Fachwerkstatt reparieren lassen (Gewährleistung). Ich durfte bei meiner 2014er die 2. Tauschkupplung auch selber bezahlen.

Anyone who buys an appliance or any other object thinks that they have a guarantee on the object of purchase. This is simply wrong. There are serious differences between guarantee and warranty. To make things even simpler, people also like to talk about product liability and lump all three terms together. However, each of these terms has its own meaning both in nature and in German law.

Zu Zeiten der EU galt doch für einige Länder England, Irland … eine andere Regelung. Ich meine dort galt abweichend von der 2 jährigen Gewährleistung eine 6 jährige Gewährleistung. Von daher wäre die Frage nach einer Beteiligung an den Kosten vielleicht verständlich. Wie sich das nach dem Austritt aus der EU verhält

Private...no guarantee. My only complain is about Known issues as manufacturing fails and not due to regular use. Would expect from a premium brand to back me up in some way and not just to say "that's your problem"

Hello Claudio,

the problem you describe is annoying - but it has also occurred with a few others (also here in the forum). All the cases I know of have been covered by BMW as a gesture of goodwill (parts 100%, labour 50%), regardless of warranty. It seems important that all services were carried out by an official BMW partner and that it happened below 80.000 km. Is this the case with your machine?

Otherwise, a few more questions:
1) Have you seen documents that clearly show BMW's refusal, or did the dealer just tell you?
2) In which country do you live?
3) What are your technical skills and personal workshop equipment?
4) Repairs to the engine are described in the official BMW RepRom CD/DVD. Do you own one?

p.s.: Ranting about BMW is often not well received here. Some users believe that BMW only uses God-anointed parts that can never become defective. Many of them just don't know any better because they haven't had your problem yet.

Du hast beim Kauf sozusagen einen Gewährleistungsvertrag abgeschlossen. Der gilt unabhängig ob EU oder nicht. Es sei denn es stünde drin "nur solange.... EU-Mitglied ist" (oder ähnlich).

Ja, klar, aber es sind wenigstens 5 Jahre vergangen. Andernfalls könnte man ein Mopped 20 Jahre einlagern und dann defekte WeDis bei 0 Km bemängeln.
Im Verlauf von 80 Tkm sind 3 Besitzer auf der Maschine herumgeritten. Niemand weiss wie sie das Gerät behandelten. Selbst wenn es immer bei einer NL zur Wartung war könnte einer mit total niedrigem Ölstand unterwegs gewesen sein, vor dem KD aufgefüllt haben und sich jetzt ein Langzeitschaden zeigen.
Geht man von einer geringen Nutzung aus, so hat der Besitzer leider Pech weil er "zeitlich" rausfällt.
Geht man von normaler Nutzung aus, dann müssen die Teile eben (leider) nur 2 Jahre halten. 80Tkm in 5 Jahren sind an der Grenze zu "eifriger" Nutzung. Wieviel % der Besitzer fahren mehr als 15 TKM jährlich?

Wieviel % weiß ich nicht. Aber ich z.B. und verkaufe meine Motorräder immer so ab 80.000, aber unter 100.000 km und hatte bisher ein ruhiges Gewissen, dass der wenigfahrende Käufer noch einige Jahre viel Spaß damit hat und keine bösen Überraschungen erlebt.
Darauf bezog sich mein 'ärgerlich'.
Das der Hersteller bei dem Alter keine Kulanz gewährt ist für mich ok.
Aber meine Erwartung ist schon, dass heutzutage ein Motorradmotor dieser Klasse (bei ordnungsgemäßer Wartung) in der Regel >150.000 km ohne größere Schäden läuft.
(und bisher wurde diese auch erfüllt)

Bei meiner letzten 12er Lufti (EZ 08/2012) hatte sich Ende 2017 der Vordere ESA-Dämpfer mit Inkontinenz bemerkbar gemacht. Die regelmäßige Wartung wurde zuvor auch bei einem BMW-Händler durchführt.
BMW hat das Ersatzteil gestellt, ich durfte den Arbeitslohn begleichen.
Insofern sollte der TO schon nochmal nachhaken, ob BMW sich doch noch kulant zeigt. (Voraussetung: durchgängige Watungshistorie)
